As I began to solder more, I realized that a fume extractor would be a healthy purchase to make. However, I struggled to find one that was relatively cheap and appropriate for my specific use case; I only had small soldering jobs and did not need a huge fume extractor sitting on my desk.
I came up with the Fume Cube: a 55mm cube-shaped fume extractor activated by a tilt switch. The cube is turned on or off by flipping the cube to sides respectively labeled 'on' and 'off', which is an aesthetic and functional feature inspired by the Lexon Flip Clock. The cube is powered by two replaceable 9V batteries and uses a computer fan placed behind a carbon filter to suck in and absorb fumes.
I also created a detailed guide to building the cube, which costs around twenty dollars to make.
